2020 Sound Birthing Online Course and Workshop Schedule

Birth Music Consultation (26 CMTEs)
This online course prepares Music Therapists to provide Music Therapy Online Consultation Services for low-risk expectant mothers and their partners who are interested in using the Sound Birthing Music TM program in preparation for birth. Participants will learn how the music therapist functions as the role of the Birth Music Consultant in this process and how to educate couples how to use music effectively in labor and birthing when a Music Therapist will not be present at the birth.  Tips and techniques for working with couples in the online format will also be presented.  Special topics will include empowering mothers and their partners in the birth process. Ethical and technology guidelines for offering Music Therapy Online Consultation Services will be offered.

Prenatal Music Bonding (26 CMTEs)
This online course is designed to introduce music therapists to the field of prenatal music. Participants will learn about sensory perception of the developing baby in the womb, prenatal music research, clinical practice models and techniques in the field.  Special Topics include using music to support prenatal development and communication with baby in utero, parenting with intention, attachment and bonding, building the parent relationship and preparing for parenthood. The course culminates with participants creating a proposal for the development of a Prenatal Music Therapy program based on integrating the information studied in this course.

Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth Blended Learning (26 CMTEs)
This intensive online course + experiential workshop prepares music therapists to provide Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth Services in hospital, birthing center, and home birth settings.  An in-depth study of music for labor and birth, as well as position, relaxation techniques, and other comfort measures paired with live and recorded music are presented.  Video-recorded role plays of birthing scenarios, assessment techniques, video examples of women experiencing Sound Birthing births, and group discussions are essential components of this experiential training.  Music Therapists will learn about the Sound Birthing MTACB Labor Support Model of Care, receive guidelines for creating programmed music, and learn ways to use live music in labor and birthing.  Tips and tools for building a client base and business in this specialty area are also provided.

Post Partum Music Therapy (26 CMTEs)
This online course prepares music therapists for clinical work with moms, dads and babies using music during the immediate post-partum period, newborn, and early infancy period
(birth to 3 months).  Participants will learn about considerations of moms, dads, and babies during the immediate post-partum period and how music can be used to support the family unit during this time.  Special Topics include using music to support newborn development and communication, parenting with intention, attachment and bonding, the transition to parenthood, and healing birth trauma.  Considerations for working with special needs babies and family health concerns will also be studied.  The course culminates with participants designing and planning a new community-based Music Therapy Post-Partum Intervention program based on one of the Special Topics studied in this course.
